Ken served for over a decade with 1 PARA, including service with the Special Forces Support Group, before moving into international security operations.
Ken has worked across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the United States and Latin America, supporting international news teams, NGOs, corporate clients and high-profile individuals. His experience spans hostile environment operations, crisis response, risk assessment, protective intelligence, secure transport, logistics and the coordination of trusted local teams. He has supported journalists covering conflict, civil unrest and breaking news, including assignments in Ukraine, where Cosain has operated since 2014.
Working alongside news crews taught Ken that media safety demands more than conventional close protection. An adviser must understand the editorial objective, help the team reach the story and manage risk without obstructing the reporting. Ken founded Cosain Consultancy around that principle and developed its specialist Media Safety Advisor training to prepare others for the realities of working with journalists.
Today, Ken leads Cosain's international deployments, training and consultancy work. He oversees the selection and development of its Media Safety Advisors and remains committed to practical standards shaped by operational experience. He also supports opportunities for veterans entering the industry and advocates for better safety support for freelance journalists.
